When I play a DVD, I'm getting the audio through my new home theater receiver/speakers, but no picture! Why?
Hi, It's nice to have you back...
Everything seems to be connected properly between the the receiver (component video cords, L and R audio and Video cords, Digital Coax Audio), but still no pic. Anything simple I might be overlooking?
Also, as an aside, what do the component video connections do that the L and R Audio and Video connectors do?

You might just be the wrong video input channel on your TV. Try changing the INPUT channel.
Unless you have an HDTV, the component video connections are not necessary. You can use any audio or video cables with RCA connectors for use as the 3 component video cables -just make sure each color corresponds on each end.
If you haven’t already, plug the video cable directly into your TV or via your receiver (i.e. DVD player —> Receiver —> TV or DVD player —> TV), and plug your L & R audio cables from your DVD player into your receiver and use your receiver for sound when watching a DVD. If you have extra cables, you can connect the audio cables from your receiver to your TV to hear audio from your TV’s speakers as well.
Just a side note, you can use the 3 component video connections to replace the single (usually marked yellow) composite video connection for a better picture -especially if you have an HDTV and a progressive scan or upconverting DVD player.

ok to keep it simple
from the DVD player – red/white (left & right audio ) and yellow (video component) to the Receivers DVD input and either the DVD ’soptical output audio or orange digital coax output to the Receiver’s DVD Digital input
From the Receiver TV Out (yellow component output) to the TV’s video in (yellow component input)
You have sound so thats working , have you set your tv to Component input ?
Audio left/right (red/white) and Video (yellow) component jacks are your standard connections betwee a/v components.
Remember most receivers will not let you take DVD Video out (yellow) and then switch it to your Receivers S-Video output (if equiped)
